BC Ferries

VOYAGES OF DISCOVERY Northern Vancouver Island is the gateway to a number of spectacular coastal experiences. Follow Hwy 19 north to Port Hardy to embark on BC Ferries’ world famous Northern Voyages.

Discovery Coast Passage One of the most beautiful crossings on the west coast, BC Ferries’ Discovery Coast Passage takes travellers on a spectacular adventure through BC’s coastal islands to the mid-coast community of Bella Coola. The ferry departs from Port Hardy and travels up the rugged coastline calling on the remote communities of Bella Bella, Shearwater, Klemtu, Ocean Falls and Bella Coola. Watch for glimpses of orcas, dolphins and bald eagles along the way. For those travelling by car or RV, The Freedom Highway (Highway 20) takes you from Bella Coola through the interior of British Columbia.

The Inside Passage For a spectacular experience, sail with BC Ferries on an unforgettable 15-hour day cruise on the Northern Expedition, through the awe-inspiring Inside Passage. The majesty of the Inside Passage cruise has been recognized by the Canadian Tourism Commission as one of its Signature Collection Experiences. The ship sails from Port Hardy through calm inlets, evergreen-covered islands and majestic coastal mountains where sightings of killer whales and eagles soaring above are commonplace. When you disembark at Prince Rupert, you can linger for a few days, and then take the ferry back to Port Hardy. You can also continue your journey through Northern BC by road via the scenic Yellowhead Hwy, or travel north to Alaska via the Alaska Marine Highway System.
