PCQHA Annual Awards Banquet - Brings Many Happy Memories
Almost 200 people attended the spectacular 2012
PCQHA Annual Awards Banquet & Meetings held in the lovely Grand Prix Ballroom at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Burbank. What fun we had! Starting out the evening were NSBA, AQHA and PCQHA meetings shar- ing important information regarding upcoming new pro- grams. There are exciting new programs being introduced by each association, so if you missed the meetings, go to
www.pcqha.com for all the documentation on what is hap- pening for 2012. In addition, a huge Silent Auction featured incredi-
ble finds including a custom silver snaffle bit, two $500 Office Depot Gift Baskets, plus numerous gift baskets, horse items, jewelry and more from many members and friends of PCQHA. We thank Nutrena for their generous gift of $500.00 for the awards banquet. While everyone shopped the silent auction, a memorable display of all the past Hall of Fame recipients (from 1998 to current) was featured. The “Wall of Fame” was created by Chris Oswald and we thank her for her extraordinary efforts in making this happen. Judy Bonham also brought displays from past PCQHYA (youth) displays that everyone enjoyed exploring. There were also 3 different equine pho- tographers who brought photos/artwork to show off to members. In the background, a fun PCQHA video/slideshow featuring many PCQHA members played along with the pre-banquet activities. If anyone would like a copy of the video, please contact the offices at PCQHA. The main event of the evening began at 7:00 p.m.
with the announcement of the 2012 Hall of Fame recipi- ents. Each year one horse and one person are selected for this coveted honor. This year’s equine recipient is O’to
Windy, owned and ridden by Nancy Alto-Renfro. The presentation, coordinated by Cherie Vonada, began with a heartwarming video and story of “Windy’s” accomplish- ments. Afterwards, an emotional Nancy touched everyone with her funny stories of Windy. By the end, we were all in tears with her touching stories as she remembered the great rides she had on Windy. Mary Whalen is the 2012 Hall of Fame person hon-
oree. Her dedication, talent and compassion for the horse industry over the past 60 years is well known throughout our horse world. Mary and her husband Greg, now in their early 80’s are still raising and showing Quarter Horses. Their Blue Ribbon Farms in Clements, California have raised many of the top Quarter Horses in California and throughout the nation. Their daughter, Debbie and hus- band Bob Kail, now training in Arizona were there to share the honor with Mary. Congratulations, Mary, we appreci- ate all you are to the Quarter Horse industry. Afterwards, Chris Hocutt, representing the EMO insur- ance agency presented PCQHA with a check for $10,000. Their Excusive Partnership Sponsorship of PCQHA is appreciated by all PCQHA members. In addition, a check for over $3,000 was presented to PCQHA from the Pacific Coast Journal and Denise Munson and Virginia McClintock. A delicious gourmet Italian buffet dinner was served
followed by Chris Hocutt from the EMO Insurance agency awarding the EMO/PCQHA Horse of the Year honors to Shesa Smokin Memory, owned by Natalie Kazemi of Santa Ana, California and bred by Sandy Arledge Quarter Horses. Natalie and her trainer, Michael Hoyt, both com- peted on the mare. Afterwards, the 2011 Year End Champions were named. Marc Ristow and Chris Hocutt presented the awards and made everyone laugh with their individual stories on each winner. Congratulations to each and every PCQHA champion! Each winner is featured in the annual Pacific Coast Directory which was handed out to every attendee at the awards banquet and will be dis- tributed at all PCQHA shows. Winning the coveted 2011
