OUT AND ABOUT

OTFORD AFTERNOON WI If you are thinking of joining the WI, January is a good time to do so. We are starting off the New Year with a talk entitled "Taste of France" by Michael Bunn on Tuesday 11th January at the Memorial Hall at 2 p.m. and, although some of us are not so active as we would like to be, we arrange good speakers and endeavour to

stay focused on the many issues that concern us in the wider world. There are also plenty of other activities to pursue - art, discussion, theatre, outings, craft , home economics, under the umbrella of our Local , District and Kent organisation. We meet on the second Tuesday in the month and further Information can be obtained from the Otford web site, (Otford.info) or call Joyce Shaw on 01959 522736 or email joyce.shaw@otford.net.

OTFORD EVENING WI Reluctantly we had to cancel our meeting on 9th December due to snow and ice. However, instead we will hold a celebration for the New Year at our meeting on Thursday 13th January 7.00 for 7.15pm. Please note the new time for this meeting only. Our speaker will be Antonia Gallop who will speak about carriage driving. Hope you will join us. Further details from Eve on 524887.

EMBROIDERERS’ GUILD The next Embroiderers’ Guild meeting will take place on Saturday 29th January in Otford Village Memorial Hall. The meeting will start at 10.00am for members to work on their own projects. The afternoon session will start at 2.00pm with a talk by Hazel Credland entitled “Photos to Stitch”. This will be followed by tea and cake. For more information please contact Sylvia Grafton (01732 452117)

PARISH COUNCIL NEWS Tel: 01959 524808

Parish Clerk: Brenda Hambrook email: parishcouncil@otford.netWeb: www.otford.info/parishcouncil

Farewell and Welcome In December we said farewell to Barbara Darby, our parish clerk for the last twenty-five years, and welcomed Brenda Hambrook to take her place. Barbara received a presentation and flowers at a gathering of councillors and other residents on 10th December. Our MP was unable to be present but Mr Fallon is well acquainted with Otford and summed up everyone's thoughts by writing, "Mrs Darby has made an extremely valuable contribution to Otford Parish Council over the last 25 years. I would like to thank her for her dedication and hard work".

We wish Barbara and Ron a long and very happy retirement and I would like to thank

her especially for the many ways she has assisted me during my period as the chairman. A village gains immensely through such professionalism.
