Squash back on at Kenward SOCIAL enterprise has helped to get a dis- used squash facility up and running again for residents in Yalding. Volunteers have been working with the
drug and alcohol rehabilitation charity, Ken- ward Trust, to refurbish their neglected squash court for use by residents. As a thank you, the trust has made the
court available to the local community, for a nominal fee, all day on Mondays and Thurs- days and on Saturdays until 1pm. Anyone who wishes to use the court must register with Yalding Squash at Kenward (YSK) by sending an email to petercam-
rass@aol.com, containing your name, ad- dress and contact numbers. There is no charge for registration, but a fee of £5 is payable for each 45-minute session, which will go towards the work of the Kenward Trust. Only players over 18 can register, but
under-18s can play if accompanied by an adult.
Glyn is hacked off by computer fraudsters By Dennis Fowle
MOREthan 300 friends and contacts of Glyn Charlton and his family were shocked to learn they were in dis- tress, high and dry on a Madrid hol- iday after being mugged in the hotel car park. About 30 immediately replied to
an email for urgent funds to settle their bill and “find our way back home”. MP Helen Grant also re- ceived the email and contacted the Foreign Office to seek urgent action. But when Glyn (pictured), chairman of East Farleigh and vice-chair of Tovil parish coun- cils, first heard of all this he was sitting hap- pily in a board meeting as a govenor of HadlowCollege, only 10miles from his home in Lower Road, East Farleigh. It was all a complex computer hacking
scam. Without his knowledge the hackers had removed his full computer address book
gesture for the club to put our name to the new stadium.” The Gallagher Group, based
ure naming rights deal for their new ground off James What- man Way with The Gallagher Group – one of the major in- vestors in the project and the firm behind much of the work already carried out. Pat Gallagher, Gallagher Group chairman, said: “We are proud to have helped the own- ers get the project off the ground and it is a wonderful
in Aylesford, has agreed a £150,000 five-year naming
and emails since February. Everyone who responded to the
first email quickly received another asking for £1,250 wired through Western Union.
“I was astounded when a copy of
the email was brought in to the meet- ing,” said Glyn, who has retired from farm management. “My phone has been busy ever since with calls from concerned friends.
“Hopefully no one has despatched money. I would feel awful and re-
sponsible.” Glyn has been advised there is nothing the
police can do – even if he believes the second email depicts a crime,
He also contacted BT Internet and his pass-
word has been changed and address book re- stored. Friends who opened the spam emails are being advised to change their passwords.
Gallagher Group signs up to naming rights deal at new football stadium MAIDSTONE United’s new football stadium is to be named The Gallagher Stadium. The club has agreed a six-fig-
rights deal for the 3,000 capac- ity stadium, the first football ground in the country to in- clude a hi-tech 3G pitch from the outset.
Town centre managers’ traffic concerns CONCERNS about pedestrian access to the new Maidstone United FC ground have been voiced by Town Centre Management. Although the new Gallagher Stadium, next to Whatman Park,
is considered an ideal location, parking and pedestrian access from the main A229 was cause for concern, agreed members. Cllr Malcolm Robertson believes the current pedestrian cross-
ing close to the White Rabbit pub needs to be re-assessed. The club itself is carrying out an internal health and safety audit and a comprehensive travel plan.
