Australian veterinarian Dr. Christine King has developed a book of herbal blend recipes designed for horses and other grazing animals. Some of the blends were formulated primarily for nutritional purposes, others primarily medicinal, but all are safe, palatable, easy to use, and road-tested.

One of the ways medicinal herbs aid in healing is by providing nutrients that may be lacking in the animal’s diet. During the colder months of the year, Dr. King’s Autumn-Winter Meadow Blend will provide some of the meadow and woodland plants available to horses in temperate climates.

Autumn-Winter Meadow Blend 4 oz. couch (dog) grass root 4 oz. dandelion leaf 4 oz. dandelion root 8 oz. elder berries 8 oz. marshmallow root 4 oz. red clover leaf and flower 8 oz. rose hips 8 oz. sunflower seeds Measure out herbs and mix well. Give 1 to 2 oz. per day for the average-size horse. Adding warm water can make a very nice winter mash. Store in a cool, dry airtight container for up to 12 months. Makes 3 lbs.
