Tanker to benefit from ZF Marine portfolio Bangladesh’s Ananda Shipyard & Slipways has specified a complete propulsion system from ZF Marine Middle East, which incorporates three different ZF Marine product lines: gearboxes from the fast craft portfolio, fixed pitch propellers from the commercial vessel portfolio and controls from the leisure craft portfolio. The equipment will be installed on a twin-

screw 79.8m-long oil tanker designed by C S Marine of China for the Bangladesh Navy. The vessel will be powered by a pair of

Cummins QSK60-MHPI high speed engines. Each engine is rated for 1,492kW at 1,600 rpm and will drive a ZF FP 2400 fixed pitch propeller via a ZF type W7610 gearbox; ZF Marine’s Clear Command control system will supervise the propulsion plant. The vessel is classed by Bureau Veritas.

Hundested units propel sludge tankers Hundested Propeller of Denmark has supplied the first two of six propulsion units for New York City’s Department of Environmental Protection. Bollinger Shipyards is building three 3,964m3 vessels for the transportation of liquid sludge from wastewater treatment plants without dewatering capabilities. Each vessel is powered by two GE

engines producing 1826hp at 900 rpm. The Hundested Propeller scope of supply includes the design and manufacturing of the main propulsion consisting of gearboxes, shafts and controllable pitch (CP) propellers. Each vessel is equipped with two Hundested CPG120 gearboxes with 3.0:1 reductions. The gearboxes have electrically driven standby pumps. The propeller shafts are 8.1m in length. They are made for water-lubricated stern tubes and are running on Ni-Al-Bz liners. Phillyclad from ITW Polymer Technologies

protects the sandblasted surface between the liners. The four-bladed CP propellers are of the VP11S series with a diameter of 2,100mm. The blades have been designed with a moderate skew-back pattern and are installed in leak-proof grease-filled hubs. The remaining four units will be shipped at the end of 2011.
