Q&A YOUNG GUNS
Q A &
Favourite tournament and why? My favourite tournament at Guards has to be the two-goal last year. I got to play with my very close friend Martin Davison, Charlie Wooldridge and Charlie’s Dad, Ian. We have all known each other for years so it was always such a fun team. Away from Guards I always enjoy Coworth Ladies’ as it’s always so well put
together. I won it the first year and I played with Nina Clarkin, Clare Milford Haven and Lulu Hutley. Unfortunately I didn’t reach the final last year, but I will be back this year to claim back the title.
30 GUARDS POLO CLUB OFFICIAL YEARBOOK 2011
....>YOUNG GUNS
The Club boasts a thriving junior membership. Ok, so they are old enough to drive, but young enough to love their polo at any level. Louise Blake Thomas finds out what makes them tick

Best polo destination out of UK? Thailand. I have just been playing the International Ladies’ out there with Ploy Bhinsang. We were playing for King Power at Polo Escape in Pattaya. We managed to get into the final, but due to appalling weather conditions (monsoon rain) we ended up having to do a penalty shootout which we lost by a goal.
Favourite pony and why? Gatto – he was one of my Dad’s which I have had for about 12 years. He is getting on a bit now, but he is still a machine.
Colour of helmet? Black with an orange band with my nickname on the back (SWEEN MACHINE) that was given to me by a friend about five years ago.
What wheels do you have? None at the moment because my best friend crashed my last one six weeks after I bought it. Just my luck! So at the moment it is friends or taxis...or both!
Favourite non polo holiday destination? Skiing with the family in Meribel, France. My brother and elder sister both snowboard so it is always good fun spending the day with them on the slopes. Mum is a bit slow so we just leave her with the instructor. However now that I am running Ash Farm I haven’t been able to go for a couple of years, but I am hoping to go next winter if I can find the time.
Nightclub or pub and where? If it’s pub then it doesn’t really matter which one as long as all my friends are with me, but The Belvedere is one of my usual
haunts. I don’t really enjoy clubs as I always manage to make a fool of myself!
Any non polo hobbies? Very few people know that I am a keen beekeeper. Not only do very few people know that but they also don’t know that there are 62 different types of bees in the UK alone!
Career choice – polo or other? Polo all the way – you can never beat a job you enjoy!
Favourite clothing label? I don’t really get the chance to go shopping much, but I quite like the stuff in Topshop and H&M.
