s always, the last competition of the year is The Chairman’s Tournament and 2010 was no exception. The aim of this competition is for members of Guards Polo Club to come

together in a fun tournament that gives everyone the chance to play once more before the season ends. The competition is held over three days and the entertainment off the field is considered as important as the matches on the field. The Chairman himself, Colonel Paul Belcher, hosts a black tie dinner in the Clubhouse on the Saturday night and all the teams are invited to partake of a delicious asado at lunchtime, after the final games have been played on the Sunday. With prizes on offer for all , there was all to play for in Sunday’s six matches. The Small Wooden Spoon was fought for between Ockholt and Regal. In a high-scoring game, Regal ran out the winners, defeating Ockholt 8-6. The Big Wooden Spoon saw a battle between Black

Cats/Merlin and 666. In a close game, it was the Cats that won the day – and the spoon! The match for The Polo Manager’s Cup, saw Warmup put Los Borrachos out in the cold with a 4-2 victory. In the subsidiary Los Vikingos defeated Maxima 7-4. The winners were ahead by six goals going into the fourth chukka before Maxima scored their first, so Los Vikingo’s victory was assured. The Chairman’s Tournament itself was a victory for Alan Fall and

Alistair Walker’s Mad Dogs. They defeated Clive Reid’s AFB 5-4 in another close game. In the first chukka, only Mad Dogs found the flags. From then on, the teams matched each other goal for goal and so Mad Dogs won by that one goal advantage which they had secured in the first chukka. The subsidiary final went to The First Group who defeated Ali Cats by another 5-4 scoreline.
