Pavement use

West Malling Council

TWO complaints had been re- ceived about encroachment onto the pavement outside the Lobster Pot. The chairman, Cllr Trudy Dean, had asked for a copy of the licence to use tables aned chairs on the pavement andwould visit the licensee once this was re- ceived. The Music@Malling concerts

were praised, with around 800 young people in the church on the Friday and the schools had been visited by musicians. The clerk was to write to the organis- ers to thank them for their hard work and to hope this would be an annual event. A resident reported that a pot-

hole in Norman Road had not been rectified. A councillor reported there

were noticeable smells from the Blaise Farm waste facility. He had phoned the 24-hour helpline but this was for “extreme emer- gencies” only. It was suggested that the short-

stay car park barrier should ei- ther be closed or removed and the direction arrows should be re- marked as the lack of clarity was potentially dangerous. Tonbridge

ALEAF collector, still in its orig- inal box, was stolen from a gar- den shed in Heron Road, Larkfield. A number of rare-breed chick-

ens were taken from pens in a field off Kings Hill Road, Kings Hill.

The driver of a car going along

theA228 bypass, Snodland, saw three youths hiding in bushes and as she passed them a side window of her car was shat- tered. Two concrete garden orna- ments, a pig and a hedgehog, were taken from the front garden of a property in Brooklands Road, Larkfield. A BMW car containing two

Asian males believed to be in their early 20s were seen acting suspiciously. This may be con- nected to a theft from a car in EmeraldWalk, Kings Hill. A built-in CD player and sat-

nav, an air rifle and a 20-bore shotgun were taken from a van in Norman Road,West Malling. A lorry parked in Bellingham

Way,Aylesford, was broken into and some black All Saints leather jackets taken. A parcel containing boots and

other goods was taken from a box on the drive of a property in Pout Road, Snodland. Alarge plastic drumwas taken

from an allotment off Russett Road, East Peckham. Three communal washing

and Malling Council said it was aware of the markings problems and would refresh them as soon as possible.Regarding the barrier, the borough had previously said the height barrier had been locked back because it was being left open and loose after some of the larger vehicles had gained access to the car park, creating a hazard for other users. The clerkwas to inform the bor-

ough that an increasing number of traders’ vehicles were using the car park, contravening the height restrictions and preventing cus- tomer parking. The parish would welcome someenforcement onan irregular timetable as traders are awareofthe hourskeptbythe of- ficers and take evasive action on those dates. It was reported that two people

had been interviewed by police regarding vandalism at the allot- ments, but there was insufficient evidence to progress this further. Since the overnight closure of

the toilets in King Street, there had been a massive reduction in the complaints from businesses about anti-social behaviour. It was agreed not to pursue the

idea of a beacon for next year’s Queen’s Diamond Jubilee cele- brations.

Christmas thanks THANKS were given to Cllr J

West Peckham Council

Simpson for organising the Christmas tree again this year. A budget of £170 was agreed. PCSO Toni Matthew reported

here had been one reported theft from amotor vehicle in Swanton Road.

There was great concern re- garding the water run-off around the Parsons Corner and Mere- worth Road area. Residents had done extensive work to their pond and the current drainage system was inadequate in heavy rainfall. If the drains are blocked or cannot cope, the water should not be directed to their pond, it was argued. Other residents had large amounts of debris and soil being left by the water at the front of their property after heavy rainfall and this had been going on for several years. A meeting would be arranged with Kent Highway Services to discuss how the drainage could be improved. Concerns were expressed that

West Peckham seemed to have been removed from the second- ary gritting route, but since the meeting it had been confirmed that Mereworth Road, from Seven Mile Lane through to Par- sons Corner, was still on the sec- ondary route. The diseased tree on the vil-

lage green had been cut down and the stump would be ground out. Costs for plaques for the re- placement and other trees would be investigated.
