end events by age group, the Ellenton Silver Stick version played the Bantam, Midget 16U and Midget 18U divisions on Thanksgiving weekend with the Squirt and Pee Wee divisions set for Dec 9-11. Teams representing Oldsmar, Palm Beach, Bran-

don, Fort Myers, Orlando, Davie, Clearwater, New Port Richey, Coral Springs and host Ellenton compet- ed in the elder half of the divisional play. “Breaking the tournament into two weekends al- lowed us to keep the tournament in one building and that was something people really liked,” said tourna- ment director Linda Walsh. In the Bantam division, the Oldsmar Raiders topped the Palm Beach Blackhawks, 4-1, on the strength of two third-period goals by Tim Dolan. Taylor Ankers and J.T. Kilker added single goals for the Raiders and both Drew Carathanasis and Daniel Black had two assists apiece for Oldsmar. Noah Berkman scored the only Palm Beach goal. Netminder J.B. Lowry backstopped the win for the Raiders.

The championship win moves Orlando to play in the Newmarket, Ont., finals in January. The Coral Springs Jr. Panthers bested the Fort

Myers Jr. Everblades, 4-1, in the Midget 18U divi- sion final using single goals by four different scorers. Anthony Forgione opened the scoring for the Jr. Panthers in the first period. Greg Perlman length- ened the Coral Springs lead to 2-0 with a second-

Next stop for the Panthers is the Sarnia, Ont., finals, also to be held in January. “We’re definitely looking forward to December 9, 10 and 11 when we’ll have the Squirt and Pee Wee portion of the tournament,” said Walsh. “If Thanks- giving weekend was any indication, that weekend should have some great hockey in our building.”
