Cream of the Crop: By Kris Kaull, EMS1.com

Each year, countless new products debut with the aim of improving EMS quality of care and capabilities, and 2011 was no different. As the leading online product resource for EMS, we are privy to many of these new products, and some catch our attention im- mediately. Here are five innovative products we believe made a significant contribution to the EMS community in 2011:

Cool Medics

Cool Medics Style #M1863 FR provides not only the high-visibility requirements of OSHA, with cooling properties (evaporative cooling) for the wearer, but it is also Fire Resistant. Unlike other flame resistant fabrics with lim- ited flame retardant expectancy, this flame

resistency will not wear off with washing. Our Cool Medics fire resistant products are man- ufactured from 100% 7-ounce flame resis- tant fabric that is guaranteed for the life of the garment. This fabric has met Federal test method 191 and standard test method 5903, and meets NFPA70E Category 2, and the vest has passed ASTM 6413-08 testing. This vest has a zipper front and open neck. Adjustable back tabs of heavy elastic and hook and loop closures ensure a snug fit. Two rows of 2 inch reflective tape across the shoulders and the front and the back of this vest make this a multipurpose cooling vest, as it converts into a safety-cooling vest very visible during day and at night. Conforms to ANSI 107-Class 2.
