The Barf Bib

The Barf Bib Company cre- ated the disposable body fluid

containment bib to solve a recurring problem of handling and containing the pa- tient’s vomit because the patient’s condition has caused them to vomit uncontrollably, or those cases where the patient is not cooperative and will not hold a traditional emesis basin. These situations affect all medical units, first responders and police, and can become very costly to a department.

Some of the advantages of the Barf Bib are actually the problems or issues that it helps to alleviate. Without the Barf Bib, these problems can happen: units are out of service for long periods of time for decon, in which the Barf Bib would be a huge ad- vantage; vital sign equipment can be damaged and would need to be replaced; ad- ditional documentation of these incidents increases the workload for risk management; the safety of the patient care provider is put at risk; it slows down response times due to unit being out of service.

The bib is constructed with quality materials. Firstly, it has a tear resistant 80gsm poly laminate outer shell, one a combative patient can't tear bag off. Secondly, it has an elastic neck opening that provides a quick, secure and comfortable fit for the patient. Thirdly, there is a flip-up splashguard for unresponsive pa- tients, with added protection from projectile vomiting. Lastly, it has an easy open package for quick deployment.
