Greece, and Mike Lehr, executive vice president of business development for Silicon Valley Sports & Entertainment and chief executive officer of the Worcester Sharks. The Weckwerth Lecture annually brings leading
experts in the fields of sport management and recreation to address emerging trends in these fields. It is named in honor of the late Charles F. Weckwerth ’31, G’34, who was a Distinguished Springfield Professor of Humanics.
A nEW LAnDMARK on the Springfield College campus, a four-faced Seth Thomas street clock on Naismith Green, will be a permanent reminder of gifts from the Class of 2010 and the Student Government Association, along with support from current classes. The impetus for the project came from the desire of the Class of 2010
to make a gift in appreciation of their experience at Springfield College. The Student Government Association quickly added its support, and the classes of 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 followed with additional pledges.
Springfield College Receives Renewed Accreditation
SpRInGFIELD CoLLEGE has received renewed accreditation from the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education (CIHE) of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), the regional accrediting agency for higher education institutions. The reaccreditation is for 10 years, which is the maximum period. Springfield College Vice President for Academic
Affairs Jean A. Wyld responded to the NEASC announcement saying, “Regional accreditation is highly regarded around the world. We are very pleased with this result, which notes the quality of education at Springfield College, the progress made since our last accreditation, and our plans to continue to advance.” According to the NEASC accreditation report,
“Springfield College has a strong mission-centered focus that informs every aspect of the students’ educational experience, a dedicated faculty, and a significantly enhanced physical plant and financial position over the last ten years.” The commission also cited high-quality pro-
grams at the regional campuses of the College’s School of Human Services in 11 locations across the country. Regional accreditation is based on a self study;
a report from a visiting team consisting of college and university presidents, academic officers, facul- ty members, and campus experts in finance, student services, and library/technology; and a review by the 30 members of the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education.
