rEunion 2011 is one that will long remain in the minds of the Springfield College community. It followed on the heels—just eight days—of a June 1 tornado that struck the College and nu- merous western Massachusetts communities, but provided an opportunity for the College to showcase the commitment and determination of its students, staff, and faculty to carry on with events planned for the summer. Many individu- als commented that it was an event that remind-

ed them of what was important: their family and friends. Members of the College community repre-

senting all ages returned to campus to celebrate shared traditions and philosophy; to sing and dance and eat; listen to a steel drum band; play the tables at the Casino Royal Gala, and dance into the evening; taste wine, beer, and choco- late; share their college with their children, in- cluding cheering them on as they climbed the

rock wall in the Wellness Center; and, to support the crews that worked to restore the campus from the wreckage caused by the tornado. It was a wonderful event that reminded us why educat- ing youth in spirit, mind, and body for leadership in service to others is so very important. To quote olympic gold medalist Jeff Blatinick ’79, “Spirit makes possible what is seemingly impossible.” ~Tamie Kidess-Lucey ’81, G’82, Director of Alumni Relations
