Dee and her husband are originally from Pennsylvania; in addition to her extensive experience managing horse farm, Dee has certifi cates in Equine Massage and Equine Podiatry; …Mane Event Equestrian Programs, Incorporated, who will now be operating out of Anne Arundel County’s Andover Equestrian Center in Linthicum; …Aaron Beltran, who is a new professional whipper-in for Green Spring Valley Hounds. Aaron comes from employment with eventer Kim Davies of South Carolina and had been hunting with Aiken Hounds.


A fond farewell to… …hunter/jumper trainer Stephen Hirsch of Vintage Hill Show Stables, who has moved to Amber Hill Farm in New Jersey; …Cara (London) Moore, who after 18+ years has retired from her job as farm manager of Periwinkle in Spencerville; …Canter-Lope Horse Tack in Callaway, which closed its doors as of August 30; …Paradise II Farm on Lime Plant Road, which is closing. T e main Paradise Farm will remain open.


Maryland Will Miss


Veterinarian Rachel Beard, DVM died on August 21 at the age of 31. Dr. Beard worked with the Maryland Vet Group for two years, mainly at local tracks. She then worked at the Falls Road Animal Hospital before mov- ing to Texas.


Alyce Hurt Hinkle, a Rockville native who


moved to Texas, died on August 17 at the age of 64. Hinkle was very active in the U.S. Event- ing Association as a trainer and breeder. She was a member of the USEA Young Event Horse Committee and a Level III Instructor Certifi cation Program instructor. C. Ellis Hood, 92, of Woodsboro, died on


August 14. Hood was a longtime farmer both here in Maryland and in West Virginia. He helped to dig the foundation of the oldest part of the present New Market Elementary School. In 1942, he purchased his fi rst farm in Freder- ick County where he raised cows and horses. In 1949, he purchased a second farm near Damas-

Kelley is on her way to a full recovery; …hunter/jumper rider and trainer Brad Fincher who broke his foot in six places and his ankle in two places when a horse he was competing slipped and fell during the $500,000 Hunter Prix Final in Saugerties, New York.

nix, died on September 10 at the age of 54. Obrigkeit was born in Baltimore and raised in Carney. He was a founding member of the Maryland Dressage Association and an active competitor. Victor M. Wolfe of Wolfsville died on Au- gust 30 at the age of 91. He loved building race cars and participating in trail and buggy rides with his horses.
