Forging Ahead Duncan Macgregor


Here in the gallery we have pioneered new presentations of artwork both in terms of medium and embellishment over the years as an alternative way to keep the nation’s walls fresh and exciting. Leading contemporary artist Duncan MacGregor has always been at the forefront of this with his dazzling maritime images on glass.


Duncan has now taken yet another step forward with a stunning series of work on aluminium. The application of paint onto this new surface gives a very different feel to the overall image. Duncan’s sweeping, painterly style is highlighted by the metallic sheen, bringing every detail into sharp relief, while each colour appears as a subtly modified version of itself. Once the paint has been laid down on the surface the familiar blues seem to react with the silvers and greys beneath to bring a new reality to the colours of the sea.
