Venturing: High Adventure Scouting for Young Men and Women Venturing offers a wide variety of high adventure opportunities and activities beyond what most troops can offer. Participants can be young men and women ages 14-21 or 13 year olds that have graduated the eighth grade. Boys can be part of both a Boy Scout Troop and a Venturing Crew.
Venturing crews specialize in challenging outdoor camping activities such as 30 mile backpacking treks, rock climbing trips and a lot more.
Venturing can also supplement a Scouting experience, or for those who have a friend or sister that is not currently involved, it’s a great way to have fun together. Those interested in experiences beyond the troop, including shooting sports, skiing, scuba diving, lightweight camping, kayaking and more should check out
Venturing.NSBSA.org for more information.
Scouting for Special Needs
The Northern Star Council serves all kinds of kids. We strive to make Scouting available to every young person who is interested in our programs.
To do this we subscribe to the concept of inclusion. Special Needs Scouting was created to address the needs of young people whose physical or mental disabilities might otherwise limit their access to Scouting. Polaris, our Special Needs Scouting district creates new opportunities for youth to experience success in accomplishing goals. Northern Star Council currently serves over 5,600 young people and adults of varying abilities through these programs. These Scouts are served through more than 155 partnerships with agencies and school districts in Minneapolis, St. Paul, and surrounding communities.
For information about Polaris and Scouting for those with special needs, contact Sara Amberg, Polaris District Director at
samberg@northernstarbsa.org or 763-251-7244.
