Lion Cubs: Frequently Asked Questions Registration Details


1. What is the registration fee for Lion Cubs


The fee for the 2011/2012 program year is $20.00 for the Lion Cub pair (Kinder- garten boy and adult partner) $15.00 National Registra- tion and $5.00 for the cur- riculum packet


2.What is included for this registration fee?


Each Lion Cub pair will re- ceive a Lion Cub Adven- ture Guide, Lion Cub Adult Guide, two Lion Cub t-shirt iron-on logos, an instant rec- ognition kit and the fee to transition to a Tiger Cub.


3. Can Lion Cubs order Boys’ Life Magazine?


Lion Cubs are not eligible for Boys’ Life magazine until June of 2012 when they tran- sition to Tiger Cubs.


4. How does a pack tran- sition from Lion Cubs to Tiger Cubs?


Lion Cubs will be eligible to transition to Tigers on June 1, 2012. Your unit’s Lion Cub Coordinator will receive a transition form in the spring of 2012 and simply completes the form and returns it to the Scout office. The $1.00 tran- sition fee is included in the initial $20.00 registration fee.


5. Where do I get the mate- rials to recruit Lion Cubs this Fall?


All recruitment materials are the same for all Cub Scout recruitment (Grades K-5). There is not a separate flier for Lion cub recruiting. All Fall Youth Recruitment materials support Lion Cubs and refer to the Lion Cubs as a program not a “Pilot”. The Fall Youth Recruitment Planner will also support Lion Cubs and a grade selector has been added to confirm unit’s participation in the program.


Activities


1. Are Lion Cubs allowed to participate in everything that the pack participates in?

Lion Cubs are younger and have a shorter attention span than the older cubs so you may want to have them involved in the begin- ning of the pack meeting for a skit, or song and recogni- tion, and then have them meet separately for a fun activity.


2. Are Lion Cubs eligi- ble to participate in the Pack, District and Council Pinewood Derby?


Yes. Lion Cubs should partic- ipate in the pinewood derby. You will want to set them up just as you do all other dens. They are also able to partici- pate in the District and coun- cil races if their cars qualify.


Advancement


1. How are Lion Cubs Recognized?


Each Lion Cub receives an Instant Recognition Kit in the program packet. Lion Cubs earn beads for each activity they complete.


2. Is there a Rank Ad- vancement for Lion Cubs to earn?


Though there is not an official BSA rank advancement for the Lion Cub program, Lion Cubs can earn the Lion Badge once they complete the Lion Cub Adventure Guide.


3. When do Lion Cubs work on their Bobcat Badge?


Lion Cubs wait to work on the Bobcat badge until they transition to Tiger Cubs.


4. Are Lion Cubs eligible to earn Sports and Academic (loops and pins)?


This should be determined by the pack with Lion Cub parent participation.


Camping


1. Can Lion Cubs attend Council Camping Activi- ties like Fall Festival and Polar Cubs?


Yes. Lion Cubs are encour- Yes. All Northern Star A Navigator Special Edition


Cub camping programs are being evaluated to make the necessary changes to ensure that the programs of- fered to Kindergarten youth are age appropriate.


2. Can Lion Cubs go camping?


Yes they can. The camp- ing experience should mir- ror that of the Tiger Cub program and demands an adult to youth ratio of 1:1. It is highly recommend- ed that the camping opportunities offered to Lion Cubs are Family Camping activities.


Finance


1. Can the Lion Cubs in our pack participate in our unit fundraiser and popcorn sale?


Packs are encouraged to have Lion Cub families sell popcorn and participate in other unit fundraisers to help


the pack raise money for a quality unit program.


2. Should we ask Lion cub Families to participate in the Friends of Scouting campaign?


Yes. A list of Lion Cub participants will be includ- ed in FOS packets for 2012 campaign. In addition, the Lion Cub Badge will be in- cluded in the free rank ad- vancement incentive. Lion Cubs will also be included in the free Pinewood derby FOS incentives as long as the Lion families are in- cluded in the Friends of Scouting “Ask”.


Training


1. Should we include Lion Cub partners in the pack youth training?


Absolutely. All parents should view the Youth Protection Training Video and discuss


with their youth Scouting’s Commitment to Safety which can be found in the front pages of the Lion Cub Scout Adult Guide.


Scout Shop/


Uniform details 1. What is the uniform for Lion Cubs?


The official uniform of the Lion Cub program is a t-shirt with a Lion Cub logo. Lion Cubs may also choose to wear the blue Cub Scout uniform shirt if they so choose, however, there is not an official Lion Cub neckerchief or slide at this time.


2. Are Lion Cub t-shirts available in the Scout Shop?


Yes. The Scout Shop carries a grey Lion Cub t-shirt in a variety of sizes for youth and adults.
