LETTER FROM OUR CHAIRMAN, Fenn Putman
It’s been three years since the opening of the Guenther Family Wellness Center, one of the most significant capital projects to take place at Frost Valley in recent years. The addition of the Wellness Center made possible specialized medical facilities required to continue the Ruth Gottscho Dialysis Center for our extraordinary Kidney Camp Program. In addition, Frost Valley YMCA is fulfilling its vision to develop additional services to children who typically are not able to attend sleep away camp because of their special medical needs. We expanded our relationship with Montefiore Children’s Hospital to create “Hearts in the Valley” allowing children with heart disease to attend resident camp and receive the vital medical supervision they require while at camp.
The Guenther Family Wellness Center is also a hub of activity throughout the year. The Globe Theatre, Landsberger Arts and Crafts room, Nature Center and our toddler room provide ample in-door programming space to expand programs and services to families, scouting groups, and church group retreats. I am proud to report that in 2010 Frost Valley provided services to a record number of visitors, a testament to our quality staff, facilities, and programs. On behalf of the Frost Valley YMCA Board of Trustees, we are grateful to our extended Frost Valley family for their support as we continue to enrich the lives of those we serve.
LETTER FROM OUR CEO, Jerry Huncosky
I feel fortunate to lead an organization that is in the business of youth development, it’s a great business to be in and I see the “return on investment” every day. Frost Valley’s pristine natural setting, together with our programs create an environment for young people unlike their day-to-day lives. I have witnessed daughters and dads spending quality time together without distractions, a sixth-grader understanding where the water he drinks comes from and children learning how to make healthy choices at mealtime. It happens here at Frost Valley all year long, sometimes in the most subtle ways. I am proud that we are able to offer experiences to our youth so they can learn, explore and develop their potential.
I receive countless letters and emails from parents, teachers, and youth group leaders about the positive impact we are having in the lives of the people we serve. This annual report is a chance to share some of those stories. As you read through the remaining pages, please remember that none of this is possible without our donors. Contributions to Frost Valley YMCA ensure access to programs for those young people who need them the most, and ensures the successful business of youth development.
