PEF members have continued to support the State Employees Federated Appeal (SEFA). In 2010, state employees raised $8.4


million, about $1 million less than the previous year, according to statewide SEFA Director Suzanne Maloney. “This year, our campaign will focus on


state employees contributing to their communities, even with very difficult circumstances happening throughout state agencies,” Maloney said. SEFA is a state-sanctioned, charitable,


payroll-contribution program established under state finance laws. “It is also a state-employee program, not a


state-agency program,” Maloney said. “Because of the unselfish and generous nature of state employees, our campaign is a success year after year.” The 2011 campaign kicks off September 1


and runs through December 31. To make a tax-deductible donation to SEFA, members should contact their local agency campaign manager or PEF council leader. You can participate by investing as little as


$1 from each paycheck for a year. Contributions are used for a myriad of


causes such as medications for people with kidney disease, therapy for a child in hospice, medical supplies for the needy, counseling sessions for families dealing with Alzheimer’s and even wigs for cancer patients who lost their hair due to chemotherapy. For more information on SEFA, visit
