WHERE SHOULD YOU EVACUATE?
You must go at least as far as I-12 where you should be clear from storm surge flooding. East: Take I-10 and head North on I-59. Both lanes will be outbound, but
I-10 could close at the twin bridges due to high winds and water. North: Take the Causeway, but both lanes will close if winds exceed 50 mph. West: Take Airline Drive (US 61), but it has low spots and will floord quickly. OR take I-10 West, both sides will be outbound. The right two lanes merge into I-55 North. The left lanes go to Baton Rouge. Watch for crossover lanes near the Loyola Avenue exit.
WHEN YOU EVACUATE
Shut off electricity, gas, water. Store all perishable food in a sealed trash bag, inside your refrigerator. Load emergency supplies into your car using this guide as a checklist (you cannot bring pets, alcohol or weapons to shelters)
Be on the alert for tornadoes, which can be caused by hurricanes
