From Max Mayhew
I couldn’t help noticing last month that the Government have introduced a maternity bill that allows the husband to take the wives left over maternity leave.
At the time of hearing this I thought great what a great idea, then on the sky news, there was a comment about the number of jobs that have been lost from Britain and gone to the likes of India and Eastern Europe. This made me think, with 3 million people
unemployed and likely to climb, why is the Government doing this? OK in an ideal world it’s a great idea and with a booming economy that can afford this, but having spoken to a few large employer businesses who have confidentially said to me in person this really could be the straw that broke the camels back and that they are now seriously looking in to switching production abroad.
Lets all be honest, 2 years ago we would go to Tesco or Sainsbury and fill our baskets and trolleys with leading brands, today when Mayhew is on shopping command from her indoors I have noticed a big leap in the supermarkets’ own brands in peoples’ trolleys and baskets. And why is this, well it’s obvious it’s cheaper!!.
The fact is businesses are no different to running your home, if you don’t pay your mortgage you lose your house, and if a business does not make profit you lose your job.
As I write this article I told my boss the editor- he who must be obeyed I was writing this article and he gave me a bosses look of don’t say anything stupid Max.
He probably thought I was going to be on the maternity side, well in good times yes but we don’t live in good times. So my message is this to all MPs, help British industries and drop petrol prices and red tape.
