A True English Gent
The Tower Magazine was sad to hear of the death of the English boxing hero Henry Cooper.
Cooper was famous for knocking out the then Cassius Clay, AKA Mohamed Ali.
Cooper in true English tradition was one of the best boxing sports men, winning the Lonsdale belt 3 times and was Commonwealth and European champion.
Angelo Dundee, Ali’s manager admitted he cheated and slit Ali’s boxing glove giving Ali 5 minuets to recover from Coopers thunderous left punch.
Cooper should have been champion but the fight was stopped later on in the fight due to Coopers cut eye.
Later in Henry Cooper’s life he became a celebrity in TV and for his charity work.
I met Henry at a few boxing charity events and he was always happy to chat to people.
