Muth Family Learning Center A Heartfelt Thank You


May is a time of thanks, reflection and planning ahead. There is Mother’s Day, graduation, and June brings Father’s Day and a summertime filled with exciting possibilities. Thank you to the Muth Family for their generous gift to Mater Dei High School to enable the Learning Center’s tutoring and support services. These services assist many students toward academic success. Students who use the Learning Center services go on to advocate for their academic needs in college. Again the Muth Family has given more than money to Mater Dei. They have also given hope and self-esteem to challenged or different learners.


Thank you to the team of dedicated student note takers and peer tutors who use their valuable time to help fellow students. These student helpers come into the Learning Center before school, during lunch times, and after school to copy and file their notes for various classes and to actively assist students with homework or study questions. That the Learning Center exists, is a testament to the pebble in the pond theory: create a place where all learners can feel welcome, and the benefit spreads out and builds a community response. Many of Mater Dei’s brightest and best students have assisted with and used the Muth Family Learning Center.


Another facet of the Muth Family’s generosity is their donated funds which pay teachers to tutor, across many disciplines at Mater Dei, in their classrooms before and after school at no charge for the students assisted. This teacher tutoring service is available to any student on campus. Mrs. JoAnn McCune, the Learning Center’s Teacher and Reading Specialist, is currently running a free, 6 week Study Skills Seminar for eleven students who volunteer for extra support.


The blessings of hope and possibility are inspirations for Mater Dei High School’s Learning Center, brilliantly envisioned and executed via the Muth Family’s generosity and Mater Dei’s administrative commitment to excellence in learning for all of its students.
