May 2011 MAINE COASTAL NEWS Page 19. Stephens & Waring Yacht Design Makes Move to Belfast For Stephens, March was a month filled
with travel. He headed to Alaska to watch parts of the Iditarod with his son’s 8th grade class. He then headed to Seattle where he spent a week looking at an old Chris Craft for an IPS repower project. Then it was back to Brooklin for a couple days in the office, before leaving for The Bucket Regatta in St. Barth’s to sail aboard BEQUIA. He added, “It has been a crazy schedule amongst the many other details we are wrestling with in our day to day business.”
A major change for Stephens, Waring & White, is that there is an end to an era. It is now just Stephens & Waring and they are moving from Brooklin to Belfast. Stephens added, “A time of change and a course that takes us in new directions. Over the years, the work we have done together with our very close and dear friend, Steve White, has been very rewarding. Long before we became Stephens Waring & White our experience working as designers and craftsmen for Brooklin Boat Yard gave us a great feeling of significance in our lives. Over the years, Steve has not only been a great friend, a partner, but a great boss as well, and we won’t forget to credit him for his willingness to help our design firm blossom into what it is today.
“This is all good and exciting news,” continued Stephens, “and it is true that we have made some big picture decisions, lately. This rearrangement in our structure comes through many threads and ideas in our conversations among us here at Stephens Waring & White, and is due to addressing our needs in concentrating on the things we do best. This split represents an opportunity for Stephens and Waring to spread wings, to develop our brand and image, and to continue our best work without having a seemingly integrated connection to a boatbuilding company.
While it allows Steve White to
really focus on running a world class yacht building company that is free to build yachts by any designer. It has always been our focus to continue to grow and evolve in providing top quality yacht designs to our clientele, and while change can be difficult and confusing to figure out, we are also very excited about the future.
“Since February, some of this news has leaked out and we are ecstatic to hear about the favorable responses to this information,” added Stephens. “We will continue to host relationships with yacht builders and contractors in the same way that we have always done, and it is our hope that we may expand our network and opportunities as we move to the future in Stephens Waring Yacht Design. They we will soon be moving their office location from the 4th
floor of Brooklin Boat
Yard to the other side of Penobscot Bay in downtown Belfast, ME. They plan to be up and running in this new space by mid May. Be sure to watch for announcements regarding an office warming party sometime in early June! We hope many of you will be able to join us.
