Hard work helped stave off winter hazards A great deal of hard work was carried

IT was another hard winter and the parish council worked closely with Kent Highway Services to ensure that salt bins were regularly replenished.

out by a few parishioners to keep the paths and roads clear, and the council is very grateful to those who took part.

Minimal precept increase

CHAIRMAN: Vianne Gibbons CLERK: Jan Capon,

Plenty to keep you occupied at

parish pavilion THE parish pavilion continues to be used for a range of com- munity classes, and remains an important part of the Loose community. Some may have noticed that signage is on display for the new Sure Start Loose Chil- dren’s Centre, which is cur- rently being held at the premises on a daily basis and is open to local families. Details of pavilion events can

be found on council website: www.loosepc.kentparishes.gov.uk

DESPITE major funding cuts from Maid- stone Borough Council, Loose has made a minimal yet vital precept increase for the next fiscal year. To achieve this, naturally cuts have been made at parish level but the parish council strives to maintain the character of Loose and provide the best value service it can. A great deal of work continues at the parish pavilion and King George V Play- ing Field to keep the area attractive and a

safe place for people to enjoy. Hirings have substantially increased,

which has helped financially with the upkeep and maintenance of the facility. Upkeep of all areas around the parish re- mains an integral part of the council’s main aims and responsibilities. Through seeking funding opportunities, improve- ments can be facilitated and are consid- ered paramount towards keeping Loose the hidden ‘gem’ in Maidstone.

Police make positive action over anti-social behaviour

AN arrest has been made following anti social behaviour at King George V Playing Field, which was highlighted by local residents. Any incidents should be reported to police by calling 690690 or by speaking to PCSO Richard Chainey 07989 992 424.

Extra vigilance to stop fraudsters

MEMBERS of the public have been warned to be aware of fraud- sters that have been operating in the area, and who particularly seem to ‘home in’ on the most vulnerable members of society, such as the elderly. Community warden Liz Lovatt (07813 712 107) is keen to speak

to any concerned resident about cases of unscrupulous door selling, telephone calls or people asking for identity items such as credit cards.

Village Green THE environment committee is presently working on improve- ments to the village green area opposite the post office. One of the options being ex- plored by the council is a new village sign. The council is open to other suggestions.

Closed cemetery WORKS on the marked memo- rials have unfortunately taken a while to commence. The Stone Shop has been au- thorised to carry out repairs to some of the stones, but it was unavoidably delayed by the cold weather.
