MERSEY MARITIME


“Our role is in supporting Mersey Maritime to deliver awareness raising training. Very often the organisations who work in our sector simply do not talk to each other, even and if they do the quality of the communication is often very poor.


“The simulator situation created here is a computer based model to industry standard and the processes which are simulated are exactly the same as would happen in the real world. We can create all sorts of scenarios and measure how people react and learn from that, in a completely safe working environment.


Tim continued “The principals behind it are that we can use this in different ways


• Straightforward vocational and occupational purposes


• All training is recorded and can be used for reference, as is every computer key stroke


• Response time is measured • Helping understanding each other’s role in the sector


The common message I keep hearing is that companies and organisations wish that they had been aware of this before because it would have saved so many problems and so much misunderstanding”.


Tim was keen to point out what many see as the future role of the UK as far as import/export is concerned: “The UK will not be an economy based on low tech mass production, but one of high tech low volume and high added value.” Tim reflected with confidence.


The whole issue of green energy, and particularly wind, and the technologies associated with it fit that remit very well. The capacity required can be provided by the services, companies and educational facilities presently situated on Merseyside, which is expected to become an increasingly important part as the sector develops.

When seeking to interview the man behind the organisation we found that he was just about to jet off to New Zealand to have a well earned break and enjoy the company of his far flung family. He still however found the time to speak to Wind Energy Network and prepare some information to share with us on Mersey Maritime and his vision for the future. We let Jim explain.

It’s a simple formula! Ask companies what they want / with whom they wish to collaborate, agree priorities, deliver outputs, base all activity on core values and, in the process, be transparent and offer a service that others can’t do!


The above summary will be used to drive the company forward and, as a result; the maritime companies on Merseyside will be world class, the maritime community will be stronger & vibrant, and finally, quality business support and skills delivery services will be in place.


At present, Mersey Maritime activity relates to 4 main subsectors, namely:


• Shipping & ports • Maritime services • Marine engineering • Distribution & logistics


Companies in these sectors are exploring options in renewable, including wind energy. The Crown Estate identifies 18 maritime subsectors
