Awards all round for freight forwarders old and new
Winners of the BIFA awards were announced at a ceremony hosted by former football referee turned TV pundit, Graham Poll on 20 January. The Annual Lunch and Awards Ceremony of the British International Freight Association was attended by more than 460 guests, including finalists, sponsors and industry personalities. From a shortlist of 34 finalists, from 27 different companies, the winners of the BIFA Freight Service Awards 2010 are: • Air Freight Award, sponsored by British Airways World Cargo: Uniserve (Airfreight)
• Environment Award, sponsored by Maersk Line: Hellmann Worldwide Logistics
• European Logistics Award, sponsored by TT Club: GEFCO UK • Ocean Freight Award, sponsored by CargoWise: SBS Worldwide • Project Forwarding Award, sponsored by OOCL: Allseas Global Forwarding • Special Services Award, sponsored by Forward Computers: The Spatial Group
• Staff Development Award, sponsored by Albacore Systems: Damco • Supply Chain Management Award, sponsored by BoxTop Technologies Damco
• Young Freight Forwarder Award, sponsored by Johnson Stevens Agencies Kristina Ahrens from Peters & May
There was also a Special Award to Derek O’Brien, whose career in freight
forwarding started at World Transport Agency in the mid-20th century when road trailer services and airfreight were in their infancy. His skill and knowledge with cargo claim handling procedures and legal and insurance matters led to a freight forwarder of the year award in 1993, and he continues to give BIFA the benefit of his knowledge of international trade and 60 years’ experience.
