Hello Shindiggers old and new,

It’s the bag we’re in! Shindig! has undergone yet another minor reshuffle which will spread our word further and give you even more for your money.

who participated), we

After the positive responses to our “reader survey” (thanks to all we took note of your interesting comments and

(thanks

thought long and hard about the best possible way “Old Music” and “New Music” could

and could be embraced. And remember, by “new music” this this

means “decent current bands and singers that embrace everything Shindig! is about” – not the dullard alternative and indie bands everyone else writes about! The main magazine has been tailored a little and we have created a new supplement called Happening. This, as you will have seen after tearing the bag open, takes takes in the best new bands, retro retro fashion, movies, clubs, events, cool

movies, clubs, events, cool clutter and gig

and record reviews relevant to the Shindigverse! And no, you won’t find Arcade Fire or Mumford & Sons in it. The exciting thing is that it will also be distributed throughout clubs, shops, pubs and bars for free to entice more people into our readership. At the same time, regular Shindig! readers get something extra, as Happening will continue to be packaged in a bag with each issue of the bi-monthly magazine. Seeing most new music coverage has been moved to the supplement, the front section of Shindig! will now feature a number of shorter features and pieces on ’60s and ’70s artists. Our survey also indicated how many of you appreciated issue 12’s

cover mount CD.To prevent possible landfill there isn’t an actual disc with this issue, but we have compiled 21 tracks by our favourite new acts for you to download into iTunes or burn for yourselves. This one might even be better than the last. Pugwash, Thee Attacks, The Brutes, Race Horses, Old Californio, Ulysses, Teaspoon, The Saffron Sect, The Moles, Trembling Bells and 11 more blinding talents will blow your mind – whether a young gig-going reader or a longtime fan who thinks they have heard it all before. Full band and track details are in the centre spread of Happening, whilst a downloadable cover is on the site.

Hopefully you’ll agree that our nip ’n’ tuck have been well

worthwhile. Due to me rambling on about our latest changes in this space

(and not even mentioning the monthly London club night or impending book), there’s little space to discuss this almighty issue. But it really is a goodie. The Birds, The Remains, Tages, The Purple Hearts, John Sebastian, The Outsiders, Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush, Sandy Denny, Jamme… shall I go on? Where will it all end? One thing for sure is that us busy bees will be putting our feet up for a little while. As always, put some music on, sit back and enjoy. Until next time. Jon ‘Mojo’ Mills, Editor-In-Chief
