After spending more than 25 years working with DentalMan and Lysta of Denmark promoting their mobile dental units in the UK, Ireland and Europe, Siggi Jokumsen set out to design and sell his own portable unit. He set up Newcodent in


2004 and, after intensive consultation with the dental profession and with over £200,000 spent on research and development, introduced the complete portable dental unit in 2008. The remit for the MDU5


was that it had to be as light as possible, easy to use and include all instrumen- tation, while remaining competitively priced. No mean feat, but the company


has manufactured a unit that weighs just 7.4kg and includes a fast handpiece, slow handpiece, scaler and LED curing light, three-way syringe and X-ray viewer. Following feedback from dentists it now also offers a portable saliva suction unit with bacterial filter on the return air as well as a new portable mirror light and a portable, multifunctional X-ray viewer. All its products are CE


approved and Siggi is ready to start distribution across the UK and around the world. The UK and Europe will be dealt with from Newcodent’s offices in Thame, staffed by specialist operators. Outside Europe the company plans to deal

with exclusive import distributors. However, they are


currently looking for a distributor in Ireland.
