BREEDSat theWEG By Liz Cornell F
ive times in the past 20 years the World Equestrian Games have brought together in one venue the sports of dressage, jumping and eventing, gathering the best of the best to compete individually and on teams for this acclaimed world championship. Which breeds have been representing the United States over the years in these popular disciplines? With the 2010 WEG ramping up to be held in the U.S. for the first time this September in Kentucky, WT glances back at our country’s horses who have competed in these last five WEG competitions. Here are the line-ups of riders, horses and their breeds.
(Please note that this article focuses on these three main disciplines; however, other disciplines at the Games, such as the para-dressage or driving, often use Warmbloods or Warmblood crosses. Also, all horses designated as Thoroughbreds may or may not be American bred. We did our best to list their originating country if it was known.)
