Versus
To hold your opponent in your grasp, to win through the merits of reaction and impulse. To stand alone, love down, staring down the table at the prospect of reverse.
A tank where Olympian dreams swim and flourish in the currents of triumphant rallies and the tidal wave of smash power-play. Each stroke is surrendered to an audience, captive within its minimal rhythm and symmetry, in its noises that run through the octaves.
The sound of bat on ball, a dripping tap in every hallway, a breathless machine that runs through Sunday. Wonderment to be found in repetition and its cyclical language, a circle that stops at phase twenty-one, to begin again.
We would not advise you to do anything apart from ‘get really into ping-pong’. Its allegiance to pleasure knows no bounds. We are Versus, servers and spin doctors alike.
