This sampler was one of many red samplers stitched by orphans at the Muller Orphanages in Bristol, England. Catherine was a pupil from her seventh birthday and left at fourteen years of age to go in to service in London. The sampler is worked over two fabric threads on 70-count linen! The original is only 10 x 11 inches but the chart is over nine sheets of paper!
