National Garden Show hosts three great days


The Royal Bath & West Showground, Shepton Mallet is the venue for another high profile event when it hosts the National Gardening Show from 3rd to 5th September.


The National Gardening Show has become an essential venue in the autumn calendar for gardeners


and help on how to grow plants and vegetables. Show highlights include:


 out all you need to know about these lovely blooms. All kinds of combinations of form, size and colour of this fashionable flower will be on show.


  – last year a gigantic 5.9kg parsnip broke the world record!


 techniques and allotments, as well as how to cook tasty fresh meals with the resident 


 scarecrows, which are displayed and judged at the Show.


Hestercombe gets active for summer


Hestercombe is gearing up for a busy summer with the school holidays a special focus for the Somerset garden. Active Hestercombe is the theme - Monday to Thursday from 26th July to 26th August inclusive when you can spend the day exploring the woodland areas and participating in fun and challenging activities in the beautiful landscape. Somerset Leisure and Hestercombe deliver safe, supervised outdoor holiday activities including climbing, den building, survival skills training, paintballing, power kite flying, go kart building and racing and woodland crafts. Activities are fully supervised by qualified staff and are for children aged 8 to 14, with paintballing for children aged 12 to 16. Also at Hestercombe this summer you can enjoy a guided tour of the gardens with experts from the British Butterfly   Saturday 1st August from 11a.m.


The event also includes displays, quizzes and information and garden admission only applies. No need to book.

Prior Park gardens walk is a national number one


The famous Bath skyline walk which passes through Prior Park was the most popular National Trust walk last year. The six mile circular walk has panoramic views of the city and a diversion takes you into the stunning Prior Park gardens. Twenty seven National Trust walks are in the south west including Brownsea Island, Stonehenge Landscape and May Hill in Gloucestershire. www.nationaltrust.org.uk/freshair

Botanical artists exhibition in Bath


The Bath Society of Botanical Artists stages its annual exhibition from 6th to the 17th July at the Bath Library, The Podium. The society was formed   promote an interest in botanical art  all forms of botanical illustration. Workshops with various visiting artists are organised and regular outings to exhibitions and gardens take place throughout the year. Artists undertake private commissions and run workshops and courses. Some are holders of Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) medals, members of   information email info@bsba.co.uk
