MMA manager races for cancer charity
MMA Insurance’s business change manager Paul Ali has completed the Grand Union Canal Race, a 145 mile non-stop endurance run at the end of May, raising over £1000 for Cancer Research UK.
He spent six months training for the event which is described as Britain’s longest, toughest, non-stop running race equating to fi ve marathons, back-to-back. Mr Ali completed the race in 43 hours, 46 minutes. Of the 91 individuals who entered the race over half did not fi nish.
He said: “These were 43 of the longest hours of my life. By 100 miles my blisters were very sore and I was suffering from sleep deprivation and the odd hallucination but my bloody mindedness prevailed and made me complete the race.” He is still fundraising via

Open GI supports Help the Hospices
Broker solutions provider, Open GI, has handed over £1,000 to Towergate’s Head of Broking Systems for completing a gruelling coast to coast cycle ride for Help the Hospices.
The 1,000 mile challenge from Lands End to John O’ Groats was completed 10 minutes ahead of their 10-day target by Graham Madgwick who is head of broking systems for Towergate Partnership and his friend Williams Watts. They completed the journey averaging 100 miles a day.
Mr Madgwick who has worked for Towergate for six years, has been cycling since 2000. He will have raised £13,000 for Help the Hospices as a result of this challenge, which includes donations from Towergate and Open GI.

New transportation segment for RSA
RSA has announced the creation of a new transportation segment, encompassing freight liability, ports & terminals, marine trades and marine liabilities, to serve a global client base.
Rob Cook will lead the new transportation team, which comprises specialist underwriters supported by dedicated risk management and claims experts across the world.
An RSA statement said that individually, its freight liability, ports & terminals, marine trades and marine liabilities are considered to be market leading.
It said that combining them into a single transportation segment allowed the strengths and expertise of each to be shared across the wider team. There will now be a new modular risk transfer solution on offer enabling customers to tailor their cover according to their size and complexity.
Rob Cook, RSA’s head of marine transportation, said: “The new transportation segment will be an integral part of RSA Marine, providing customers across the world with high quality service, support and expertise.
“Grouping these units together, pooling the expertise of our specialist underwriters, risk managers and claims adjusters and tailoring cover to individual customers’ needs will enable us to provide them with the protection they require whatever their business activities within the transportation industry.”
