anadians, by nature, are a trusting lot. So it is no wonder that in the world of pre-employment screening, U.S.-based employers spend much more time, effort and money in ensuring the people they hire are actually who they say they are. “Far too often in Canada, people trust

card fraud, a drug dealer infiltrating a fac- tory, or a truck driver whose history reveals a load might easily go missing. For Michael Damm, president of ISB Canada, all companies should be con- cerned about who they’re bringing into their employment and employee base. While alerting companies to red flags, pre-employment screening also acts as a deterrent. “No background checking is the path of least resistance for people with a sketchy past,” says Dinesen.
