THIS IS THE STORY of the evacuation of Dreamcatcher Meadows, our Hanoverian breeding and rider training center, during the 2009 natural inferno that raged through the British Columbia forests. In order to keep my sense of humor and a calm perspective, I reached out during this time via e-mails to family and friends. Although reliving this personal nightmare is anything but pleasant, perhaps in sharing our experience someone may find useful information to help work through a similar crisis. As you enjoy this lovely magazine you are probably thinking “it can never happen to me.” I have learned one can never get complacent when it comes to the power of Mother Nature; only she dictates when and where she will unleash her power.
