In an overweight pet, is
there more to love?
Obesity in pets can cause health issues just
as it can in humans. In fact, pets are built to be
more physically active than most of their human
counterparts and therefore need to be kept at a
healthy weight in order to enjoy an active lifestyle.
Overweight dogs have less endurance to run and
their heart, muscles and respiratory system are all
asked to do more work than they are designed for.
As a result, the excess weight increases your pet’s
probability of developing health problems such
as hip and joint pain, serious heart conditions,
as well as diabetes, to name a few. With any pet,
and especially with cats that can be tricky to slim
down, there are many methods a veterinarian can
suggest for a weight loss plan. If you feel your pet
is headed down the road to obesity, it is recom-
mended that you consult with a veterinarian
before starting on a diet plan.
