Buncombe during 2008
Current and future development was on the table in many municipalities this year. After more than three
years of negotiations, the Weaverville Town Council approved the mixed-use Weaver Village. The former Reems
Creek Presbyterian Church was rededicated as St. Matthew’s Anglican Church. A Starbucks opened in Ingles
in Weaverville, delighting coffee drinkers in the area. The Town of Woodfin moved ahead with the Reynolds
Mountain development. John Metcalf of Reynolds Mountain discussed the implementation of a traffic circle along
Merrimon Avenue, while Woodfin Mayor
Jerry VeHaun broke ground on the YMCA
site, which is scheduled to open in April 2009.
Also scheduled to open in the spring of 2009 is
the Lowe’s Hardware and Wal-Mart stores at
Northridge Commons in Weaverville.
