Sailing, Training and Socialising with a difference!
It is not often that something genuinely different comes along. Sue and Richard
Pierpoint own SailTime Lymington, SailTime Hamble and Solent Nautical College, where
they have created a unique blend of Yacht and Powerboat access, RYA training and a
social programme that will keep the whole family occupied.
So, how does it work? SailTime are the pioneers of ‘membership’ sailing that enables 8
Members to access a fully serviced, maintained and managed boat, all for a fixed annual
cost that includes absolutely everything. The secret lies in the sophisticated on-line
booking system that fairly allocates sailing time with the flexibility to book anything
from an evening sail to a solid week, up to a year in advance. Bookings can be cancelled
and reallocated virtually at will. Each member is guaranteed 42 days sailing a year – yes,
that is 6 weeks! Additional bookings can be made within 24 hours and are free. In
Lymington & Hamble they currently have 12 boats ranging from 32’ to 43’ including a
32’ motor cruiser in Lymington.
Solent Nautical College (SNC) not only provides traditional RYA training, but also
integrated training for their SailTime members onboard their own SailTime boats,
facilitating one-2-one family tuition, thus adding real value to membership. SNC
provides all the RYA shore and water based courses to take you from a complete novice
to Yachtmaster, specialist courses such as Radar, Sea Survival, skills workshops as well as
teach or facilitate all STCW courses including fire fighting.
The social programme, the final part of the package, includes fun days on the water,
assisted passages, cross Channel trips, Cowes Fireworks and a very popular Christmas
Dinner.
Costs for all SNC training can be found on their website (members 10% discount), whilst
SailTime’s annual membership ranges from £525 to £825 pcm inc vat. Apart from a one
off initial joining fee, there are no other costs and the commitment is just 12 months.
