As you can tell by her smile, Alice is a bright and vivacious young lady. Alice lives year-round at Future Victory School. Her parents died from HIV-AIDS when she was 2 years of age. Fortunately, Alice is perfectly healthy. She lived with an aunt until she was 4, but when the aunt married, Alice had to find a new home.
Alice does very well in school. Her favorite subject is Science and her favorite hobby is playing net ball.
She is a very hard worker. In particular, she loves to take care of the younger children and to be the “big sister”.
Her dream is to be able to study up to the University level.
TAGOTATOO INTERNALDISPLACEMENT CAMP Gulu, Northern Uganda
Lubanga-Kene Abech
Age: 10 Grade: P-4 Sponsorship Number: 2010-102
Lubanga-Kene was born in the northern Uganda IDP Camps. His name alone speaks volumes: Lubange-Kene – “God Alone (knows my destiny)”. Sadly, it is a common name for both boys and girls in the IDP camps.
Lubange-Kene’s mother was abducted as a child herself by Joseph Kony’s Lord’s Resistance Army, raped and placed into slavery. When she was pregnant and infected with AIDS, she was cast off. Fortunately, her mother took her in, although they were forced off their land by the act.
Despite the violence surrounding his birth, and the fact that he has never known life outside the camps, Lubanga-Kene is a beautiful soul. He is shy and quiet child around strangers, but laughs and plays with his friends.
What he needs is the opportunity to learn and grow in a healthy, positive environment. Your sponsorship will help enroll Lubange-Kene in a new life away from the misery of the IDP Camps.
