A benefi t to the community
T
HE WHITE Building on Oban’s North
Pier has had various tenants since the
War and Peace Museum moved out in
2004 but its newest residents will be hop-
ing to be there for some time.
MacQueen Bros Charitable Trust recently opened
its Community Benefit Shop, which will sell furni-
ture and other household items donated by the
removal company’s customers.
The trust was formed in 2000 to sell items in The
Oban Times’ under-£50 column but has since
grown into an important common good fund
for Oban, and Argyll as a whole, donating nearly
£10,000 in 2009.
In just over a week, staff from MacQueen Bros and
volunteers gave the shop a new carpet, painted
inside and out and stocked it with donated items.
Graham MacQueen of MacQueen Bros said:
‘Everyone did a great job of redecorating in such a
short time – the White Building is white again!’
One of the main beneficiaries was Oban and Lorn
Youth Pipe Band Association and six of its young
pipers were on hand to help open the new shop.
