Barney Frank
In Barney Frank, The Story of America’s Only Left-Handed,
Gay, Jewish Congressman we get a glimpse into the life of this
unique and remarkable politician. You may have seen him on
TV recently either talking about the Stimulus Package—since
he’s on the Senate Finance Committee—or perhaps you
saw a replay of his famous exchange with a wacky girl at a
recent Town Hall meeting in which he equated her to having a
discussion with a dining table. And on a recent Jon Stewart ap-
pearance he made an unapologetic reference to his boyfriend
waiting off stage. Our community in particular appreciates his
no-nonsense style, sharp wit and blatant honesty and that he
truly loves what he does. It’s incredible that anything can get
done with the state of our political system being unable to
keep up with the needs of the 21st century but when you read
this book you’ll better understand how Barney Frank manages
to actually accomplish things and push the envelope in spite
of it, slowly but surely. It’s a fascinating book on so many levels
and covers his life from childhood to the present, as well as his
first 30 years in congress. It becomes very clear he’s damn good
at what he does and is someone we can all be very proud of.
