Lakeside School is committed to the following principles:
To respect and value all individual pupils and staff
To provide the highest standards of care and education
To ensure safety, security and opportunities for success
Our philosophical base of ‘Resilience Theory’ holds to the principle that the
individual has a combination of personal characteristics and skills that allow
them to function beyond what would be expected in the light of that
person’s vulnerability or exposure to adversities.
As Lakeside School aspires to foster ‘resilience’, it attempts to encourage
development within the framework of five critical objectives:
Developing and supporting social networks and at the heart of them
‘unconditional acceptance’ of the pupil as a person whatever disability
the pupil might have.
Developing with the pupil, the capacity to discover meaning in life.
Promoting the skills and feeling of having some control over what
happens in life.
Promoting self-esteem and self-confidence, through the experience of
success in a range of fields, including academic achievement.
Developing and maintaining a sense of humour.
