West Hollywood is all abuzz about having its hometown bar return after
being destroyed by fire in August 2007. Micky’s is back in a big way, hotter
and better than ever. We spoke with head bartender and assistant manager,
Jason Beers to get the scoop.
Rage: Are you excited about Micky’s reopening?
Oh my God! I felt like a kid waiting for Christmas to come around, ya know?
I had a lot of restless nights, just like I’m sure everyone else at the club did. I
mean, you just wake up one morning and find that your livelihood has been
taken away... it hit a lot of people really hard. So I am extremely, extremely
happy to be back to work! The sky is the limit with this new club… we’ve got a
brand new facility, great food, great space and people are constantly calling
or e-mailing, wanting to book parties!
Rage: The new layout is absolutely beautiful!
I think they did a fantastic job with the color scheme. I love it! The layout
is basically the same, ya know… there’s a bar in the middle, same spot for
the dance floor and the restrooms are in the same place… but everything
is brand new and we’ve added an upstairs lounge. One of the big concerns
with our old clientele seemed to have been that it would not have this wel-
coming, hometown feeling that Micky’s was always known for. Micky’s has
always been the L.A. bar without the L.A. attitude.
Rage: Have you brought back the hot go-go dancers?

The sexy dancers are back, the friendly and shirtless bartenders are back,
we have the porn star night on Thursday, Hot Rod on Wednesdays, we have
the 1980s night on Sunday and we have the drag show on Monday. Our
promoter Stefano Rosso has done a great job with the entertainment!
Rage: A porn star night?

Yes, it’s called “Cocktails With The Stars” on Thursdays. Started over 14
years ago— it’s Micky’s longest running promotion. I believe there are two
reasons people go out to bars, either to enjoy a night out with their friends or
to get laid. They all want to look at hot, good-looking men. If you can please

both crowds at the same time, then you have a winning combination. That’s
why the strippers came in and we decided one night a week we would get a
host that is connected in the porn world to do a fun show. It’s a huge hit.
Rage: What are some of your favorite specialty drinks?
When we first met, my partner and I vacationed a lot in Tahiti and Fiji. I got
a lot of great Mai Tai recipes straight from the South Pacific. It has Bacardi
light, orange juice and pineapple juice, our pink Mai Tai mix and topped off
with a layer of dark Myers Rum. I’ve got some customers that come in and it’s
all they order from me. We also have specialty mojitos and martinis. The one
I’ve got down perfect, because everyone is ordering them, is the Raspberry
Mojito. The trick is you really just need to put in a pinch of everything. A pinch
of mint, three limes and no more than three raspberries. Any more will over-
whelm the drink. You muddle it all together and then you got your mojito.
Rage: Are there a lot of the same bartenders?
When we returned, we brought back every person from the old Micky’s
and gave them an opportunity to work. I have been with Micky’s for 16 years
and they really are like a second family to me. They’ve been with me through
my coming out process, through breakups with boyfriends and I actually
met my husband at Micky’s. We’ve been together now for over 11 years!
Rage: Well that does definitely sounds like a “family” bar where everyone will be
happy to return.
