should do the ‘B Team’ first, before they
ever do the ‘A’. It’s very difficult to go di-
1
rectly into the ‘A Team’ and be competi-
tive at the finals…..very hard. We actually 3
proved that with Karl the very first time
he qualified, he qualified for the ‘A Team’,
and had a horrible time. The whole mo-
ment is huge. It’s good for them to be
on the ‘B Team’, and get the hang of it.
Then they’re great on the ‘A Team’. The
one’s that go cold turkey into the ‘A Team’
have a hard time. In my opinion, it’s pre-
4
ferred that they do the ‘B Team ‘first.”
“It’s a really big deal when you get there.
When they start playing the Anthem……..
Every time I’ve gone I’ve thought it was the
greatest thing in the world. I took Heather
Fogarty to Boston to the finals, I don’t re-
5
member how many years ago, and it was
huge! So, we’ve done it for a long time.”
Taylor Siebel, who ended up in sec-
ond place to Samantha in the B Team 6
trials, was competing in the NAJYR tri-
als for the first time, and on several new
horses. To add just a little more intrigue
to the scenario, she was first on her new-
est horse, in the middle, and at the end in
7
the order of go in round one, and the first
rider in the jump off. Rather than being
daunted, Taylor said “It was fun, I was
always busy. We were hoping that Rocky
wouldn’t go first, but it ended up work-
ing out the best. Rocky’s really cool, I’ve
had him at 2 shows now since we got him
from Kaitlin Campbell. He’s really eager to
jump over the jumps, and he’s really fast.”
Off to a good start in her first selection
trials, Taylor hesitates to think too far in
8 9
advance, but with a little coaxing she says
“I would be really excited to make the NA-
JYR team. I was on the 1.30 M WCAR team
that went to Spruce Meadows last year, and
being part of a team gives you a goal and
a purpose. It’s fun to work together. It
gives a whole other aspect to showing.”
Unfortunately the second NAYR and
