Rider Profile
Casey Satterlee
Born and raised in San Diego, Casey Satterlee attends the Universi-
ty of San Diego and will be a senior the fall of 2008. She is majoring in
marketing and currently works as Assistant Director of Marketing with
JN
&
C
her father at St. Croix Capital Corporation. As with most serious rid-
ers, she has found her own way of balancing riding, school, work and life.
She currently competes on her two horses, Gracie and Fio-
na, both of which are mares. “I only like mares for some rea-
son,” she says, before adding, “they have been so good to me!”
Gracie has been Casey’s mount for three years, moving up together from the
3’ ring to the competitive Amateur/Owner Hunters. Then, eighteen months
ago, Fiona was bought in Florida to also compete in that bigger division, giv-
ing Casey two rides in the 3’6” ring.
When Casey and her fantastic

mares win, they certainly do so
in a big way. Win- ning a class two
weeks in a row on Fiona, she was
Circuit Champion at HITS Tucson
of fine
this spring. Fol- lowing, riding
both horses, that she was Cham-
pion/Reser ve Champion three
imported
weeks in a row at the Oaks Blen-
heim and Show- park this year.
Casey is quali- fied, and plans,
to tackle the in- door shows this
European
fall, then adds that she would
love to compete at the Devon
Horse Show next year. Her
bloodstock
goals are set well ahead of time
so she knows how to plan and prepare to compete at her best.
Elizabeth Bliasdale, her trainer, explains how back east plans have come
about for Casey. “She is very dedicated, goal oriented and talented. Add
for the
those three things together with a terrific work ethic and it all works. Af-
ter competing all year to qualify, she feels very blessed that her horses
are sound and ready to get on that plane. It takes a concerted team ef-
select
fort between the grooms, shoer, vet, trainers and the enormous sup-
port of her family. She never takes any one part of that for granted!”
Casey’s realistic view of her future definitely mirrors her charac-
ter and dedication. Although she loves showing, she appreciates rid-
buyer.
ing on a deeper level, saying “I love the bond I have with my horses.
I’d love to be able to keep both horses as pets but I know, that just as I
will with school and my career, I will eventually have to move on.”
While at this point Casey is satisfied to work hard and find
out where the road of life takes her, it is obvious that she
has a promising future ahead of her in all aspects of her life.
