portion was finished, Davis shined
even more, ending as the only Junior
rider without a single fault to her
tally.
“Lucy was unbelievable,” offered a
smiling Thomas. “She never missed
a beat the whole competition. It was
beautiful to watch.”
“It feels so exciting and amazing,”
said a humble Davis. “To be here
for my first time and do well – to be
on a team, I’ve never been on a team
before – it’s really exciting.”
It was also exciting for the Cali-
fornians to let everyone know they
weren’t one-hit wonders from 2007.
“This year was kind of to prove
13 that we are doing well, that last
year wasn’t a fluke,” explained Karl
Cook, who owns four Medals (three
Gold and one Silver) in back-to-back
competitions. “It is almost a com-
pletely different team this year and
yet we did it again in the A Team,
and then we still got B Team Gold.
It is gratifying that we have the riders
of a certain caliber that many people
didn’t think we had.”
It looks like a 2009 Gold rush may
already be on the horizon.
