Operative Technique
15. Placing the Resurfacing Component
Refobacin LV cement is mixed as per instructions and
poured in the inverted resurfacing head. Care must
be taken to prevent cement from attaching itself to
the resurfacing component stem. The resurfacing
component is then placed onto the prepared femoral
head and impacted until fully seated. The margin
marked in stage 13 of this procedure provides a
FLV HERE
visual confirmation that the resurfacing component
has indeed been seated to the correct position. Care
must now be taken to ensure all excess cement
is removed. It is recommended that pulse lavage
is again employed to remove any debris that may
collect in the joint.

16. Reducing the Joint
Before reducing the ReCap
®
resurfacing component
into the ReCap
®
acetabular component, it is
recommended that a large swab be placed on the
edge of the acetabular component. This will act
as a slide and help prevent damage to the implant
surfaces during reduction. When the joint has been
reduced the swab is removed. The joint is then FLV HERE
assessed for stability and leg length. (Figure 33)
