Revenge came in the form of a dramatic 3-2 win over top-ranked

both national polls 72 hours later (AVCA Coaches Poll and DiG Maga- zine). Pepperdine had occupied the No. 1 ranking since beating the Trojans on opening day. It was the sixth straight time that a USC-Pepperdine dual resulted in a 3-2 final score and the fourth time in which the teams met as No. 1 vs. No. 2. The Trojans and Waves have split the six matches. USC’s Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes picked up three straight-set wins to claim the USAV Beach Collegiate Challenge title the very next day. Claes and Hughes defeated Trojan teammates Sophie Bukovec and senior Alexa Strange, 21-9, 21-12, in the title match to run their season record to 27-0 and have now won 52 straight matches.
